The Archdiocese of Bamako is the metropolitan see for all of Mali, originating as an apostolic prefecture in 1868 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1955. Archbishop Robert Cissé has led it since July 2024, serving about 284,000 Catholics.

History
All of Mali, and only Mali, forms the ecclesiastical province headed by the Archdiocese of Bamako, its Metropolitan Archdiocesan See. The archdiocese depends on the missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Its archbishop is seated at the Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Bamako, the national capital.
