Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese covering The Bahamas, seated in Nassau. Erected as the Prefecture Apostolic of the Bahama Islands in 1929, it became a vicariate apostolic in 1941, the Diocese of Nassau in 1960, and a metropolitan archdiocese on 22 June 1999, with the Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda and the Mission sui iuris of Turks and Caicos as dependents. Its cathedral is St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Nassau.

History

The islands of the former British dependency of the Bahamas make up the territory of the Archdiocese of Nassau (Latin: Archidioecesis Nassaviensis), a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church in the Caribbean. As metropolitan, its archbishop bears responsibility for the suffragan Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda and for the Mission sui iuris of Turks and Caicos, and he belongs to the Antilles Episcopal Conference.
