The Diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil is a Latin rite see south of Montreal, erected in 1933 as the Diocese of Saint-Jean-de-Quebec and renamed in 1982. Bishop Claude Hamelin leads it, with Martin Laliberte serving as coadjutor bishop since 2026.

History

In southeastern, mostly francophone Québec, the Diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Ioannis-Longoliensis) answers to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Montréal as a suffragan. Its cathedral, the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-l’Évangéliste in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, honors John the Evangelist; a co-cathedral in Longueuil is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, and Varennes holds a minor basilica, the Basilique Sainte-Anne-de-Varennes.
