Diocese of Burlington

History

Erected in 1853, the Diocese of Burlington (Latin: Dioecesis Burlingtonensis) serves the Catholic Church in Vermont in the United States. It stands as a suffragan of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Boston, and its mother church is the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Burlington.

• Building relationships with God, one camper at a time

  Four young women from Vermont served as camp counselors at Camp Guggenheim in New York this summer. Among the counselors were sisters Lucia and Rafaella Bind-Matarazzo from Charlotte. Lucia is a junior at Butler University, while Rafaella is a sophomore at Providence College. The counselors described the camp as a welcoming environment where campers feel loved. Lucia noted that some younger campers expressed interest in the priesthood during their time at the camp, and she mentioned that several staff members are currently discerning vocations. The Diocese of Ogdensburg considers the camp a significant location for vocational growth. Darcy Fargo, the director of communications for the diocese, said that seminarians often describe the camp as a major part of their formation.

• Elaine Beam retires as principal of St. Michael School

  Elaine Beam retired as principal of St. Michael School in Brattleboro this past July after 17 years in the role. During her tenure, Beam led the school through a period of growth that included renewing its accreditation, paying off debts, and building an endowment.
