• SingCon 2026 Gathers in Brampton

  More than 130 participants gathered in Brampton, Ontario, from September 10 to 14 for the sixth annual SingCon, an intercontinental singing conference for the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Hosted by Saint Elias Church, the event brought together attendees from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe to study Byzantine Rite liturgical worship and singing traditions. The conference included rehearsals and workshops led by Dr. Melita Mudri-Zubacz and Namisha Hlus-Greening to prepare participants for liturgical services. Workshops covered basic melodies, Resurrectional tones for the Divine Liturgy, and the structure of Vespers and Matins. The daily schedule featured Vespers, Matins, the Hours, Divine Liturgy, and Parastas. Bishop Bohdan of the Eparchy of Saint Josaphat in Parma presided over the services on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The gathering was organized by pastor Father Toma Hrywna and his parishioners with the blessing of Bishop Bryan of Toronto and Eastern Canada. • Saskatoon Conference Marks Major Step in the Development of Catechesis in Canada

  More than 50 catechists from across Canada met in Saskatoon from Sept. 4 to 6 for the first Canadian Catechist Conference. During the event, Bishop Michael Smolinski of the Eparchy of Saskatoon announced the establishment of the first Ukrainian Catholic Catechetical School in Canada, which will be based at the Cathedral of St. George. The gathering grew from the National Catechists Group, an initiative of the Patriarchal Commission in Canada. For the past year, this group has held monthly online sessions to help catechists exchange ideas and build relationships. Attendees included Bishop Michael Kwiatkowski of New Westminster, who serves as Head of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission, and Bishop David Motiuk of Edmonton. Nazar Duda, the Director of the Catechetical-Pedagogical Institute of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv and Deputy Head of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission, also participated.

• Archeparchy Fundraiser to Sponsor a Semi Truck of Food and Relief for Displaced Families in Kharkiv Continues

  The Archeparchy of Winnipeg is collecting donations through September 27 to fund a semi truck of food and relief supplies for displaced families in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The fundraiser aims to raise $30,000 to purchase bulk food, baby food, and other basic necessities. If the goal is exceeded, the archeparchy plans to purchase supplies for additional trucks. The appeal follows a visit to the region from July 19 to 21, during which the archeparchy met with Bishop Vasyl Tuchapets of Kharkiv and local volunteers. In the Kharkiv region, more than 520,000 people have been displaced by the war, including over 200,000 people in the city of Kharkiv. At St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, between 1,500 and 2,000 people gather every Thursday to seek food, medicine, clothing, and shoes. Parishes within the archeparchy are holding special collections to meet the goal. In October, the funds will be transferred through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association to Bishop Tuchapets, who will use the money to purchase the supplies.
