The cathedral

Cattedrale di Sant'Evasio stands in Casale Monferrato, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

History

Political considerations lay behind the founding of the Diocese of Casale Monferrato (Latin: Dioecesis Casalensis) on 18 April 1474: the aim was to transform the Marquisate of Montferrat into an ecclesiastic territory. A Latin see in northwest Italy adhering to the Roman Rite, it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Vercelli within the ecclesiastical region of Piedmont.
