History

Political considerations lay behind the founding of the Diocese of Casale Monferrato (Latin: Dioecesis Casalensis) on 18 April 1474: the aim was to transform the Marquisate of Montferrat into an ecclesiastic territory. A Latin see in northwest Italy adhering to the Roman Rite, it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Vercelli within the ecclesiastical region of Piedmont.

    Bishop Gianni Sacchi has been reappointed to the Episcopal Commission for the Liturgy by the Permanent Council of the Cei. The decision followed a meeting of the council held from September 21 to 23. Sacchi, the bishop of Casale Monferrato, joins other members of the commission including Archbishop Claudio Maniago of Catanzaro-Squillace, who serves as president, and Abbot Antonio Luca Fallica of Montecassino.

  • Diocese of Casale Monferrato entrusts Santuario di Crea to Padri Missionari Monfortani

    Bishop Gianni Sacchi and Father Angelo Sorti, the leader of the Monfortian Missionary Fathers in Italy, signed an agreement on Tuesday, September 22, to entrust the Sanctuary of Crea to the religious order. The Diocese of Casale Monferrato will hand over the management of the sanctuary to the Monfortani for an initial period of three years. The agreement was signed during a ceremony at the basilica.
