History

Bearing its present name since 1986, the Diocese of Cerignola-Ascoli Satriano (Latin: Dioecesis Ceriniolensis-Asculana Apuliae) is a Latin Church jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in Apulia, and its bishop has answered to the Archbishop of Foggia-Bovino as a suffragan since 1979. The older Diocese of Ascoli Satriano had historically been a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Benevento. When the diocese of Cerignola was established in 1819, a single bishop governed both sees under the title Diocese of Ascoli Satriano e Cerignola.
