Apostolic Prefecture of Lintong

Lintungen(sis)

The Apostolic Prefecture of Lintong (Lintung/Lindong) is a Latin rite missionary pre-diocesan jurisdiction in northeast China, immediately subject to the Holy See and not part of any ecclesiastical province. It was erected on 18 May 1937 from the Vicariate Apostolic of Szepingkai (Siping) and entrusted to the Paris Foreign Missions Society priests of Quebec (P.M.E.). The see is vacant; its last prefect departed in 1956.

The bishop

The register holds no ordinary for this see. Where a chair is vacant the vacancy is the fact, and it is recorded rather than filled in. See the bishop.

The cathedral

Cathedral of Lindong stands in Lintong, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

History

A missionary pre-diocesan jurisdiction in China, the Apostolic Prefecture of Lindong (or Lintung) carries no entitlement to a titular bishop. It is exempt, meaning it answers directly to the Holy See and belongs to no ecclesiastical province.

How to reach it

Chancery
Catholic Mission, Taonan, Liaopei, China

This see keeps no website of its own, so its chancery is published here: withholding it would protect nothing and leave a reader with nowhere to go. Where a see publishes its own site, the register sends you there instead.

What is kept by invitation

The record above is published because it is public: what this see is, when it was erected, who holds its chair, and where it stands among its neighbours.

The working record is not. The clergy of the see, and the hours of Mass, confession and adoration in the parishes within it, are kept for members, and a person reads every request.
