Latin-rite diocese in Shaanxi province, China, erected in 1931 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Sanyuan from the Apostolic Vicariate of Xi'anfu, raised to apostolic vicariate in 1944 and to diocese in 1946. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Xi'an, with its seat at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sanyuan, Xianyang.

History
Centered in the Chinese province of Shaanxi, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sanyuan (Latin: Saniüenen(sis); Chinese: 三原; pinyin: Sānyuán) has its seat at Sanyuan and belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Xi'an.
