The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ningbo is located in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hangzhou erected as a diocese in 1946. Its cathedral is the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Ningbo, rebuilt 1995-2000, the Sacred Heart Cathedral having been destroyed by fire in 2014. Bishop Francis Xavier Jin Yangke heads the see; in 1950 it counted about 17,497 Catholics.

History

Located in the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang, within the ecclesiastical province of Hangzhou in China, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ningbo/Ningxian (Latin: Nimpuovensis; Chinese: 寧波, 寧縣) possesses two cathedral churches, though only one holds the bishop's seat. The official cathedral is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, having formerly borne the dedication to Our Lady of Sorrow. The second, a former cathedral, is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and was rebuilt between 1995 and 2000. Fire destroyed the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on July 28, 2014.
