Latin-rite diocese in eastern Guangdong province, China, erected in 1914 as the Apostolic Vicariate of Chaozhou (renamed Shantou in 1915) and elevated to diocese in 1946. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Guangzhou, its seat is the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Shantou. Bishop Joseph Huang Bingzhang was reconciled and recognized by the Holy See under the 2018 Sino-Vatican agreement.
