The Archdiocese of Bogotá is the primatial Latin Church see of Colombia, founded as a diocese in 1562 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1564. Its archbishop holds the title Primate of Colombia and is currently Cardinal Luis José Rueda Aparicio, with suffragan sees including Engativá, Facatativá, Fontibón, Girardot, Soacha, and Zipaquirá.

History
Serving nearly 3.8 million Catholics across Bogotá and parts of the Cundinamarca Department, the Archdiocese of Bogotá (Spanish: Arquidiócesis Metropolitana de Bogotá; Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitae Bogotensis) is a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in Colombia covering 4,109 km2 (1,552 square miles). Founded in 1562 as the Diocese of Santa Fe en Nueva Granada, it was raised to an archdiocese two years later and received its present name in 1891.
