P. Jan Mikeš blesses book on P. Engelmar Unzeitig
Father Jan Mikeš blessed a book about the life of Blessed Engelmar Unzeitig during a memorial service in Hradec nad Svitavou. The event marked the tenth anniversary of Unzeitig being declared blessed. The memorial included a Mass at St. Catherine Church celebrated by Father Mikeš, the spiritual director of the bishop's gymnasium in České Budějovice. Local children also performed a play about the life of the martyr. Unzeitig was born in Hradec nad Svitavou in 1911 and served as a priest in a Šumava parish. He was sent to the Dachau concentration camp for his statements and for defending Jewish people. He died in March 1945 from typhus after volunteering to care for prisoners in the camp. He was beatified in Würzburg in 2016.
