Latin rite archdiocese covering the Tarn department in southern France, an ancient see (c. 5th century) elevated to archdiocese on 3 October 1678 by Pope Innocent XI; since 2002 it is a non-metropolitan archdiocese, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Toulouse. Its seat is the Cathedral Basilica of Sainte-Cecile in Albi, the largest brick cathedral in the world.

History
Covering the department of Tarn, the Archdiocese of Albi (Latin: Archidioecesis Albiensis-Castrensis-Vauriensis); (French: Archidiocèse d'Albi-Castres-Lavaur) is a Latin archdiocese of the Catholic Church in France, suffragan to the Archdiocese of Toulouse. During the 12th century the spread of alternative beliefs in the region drew church authorities there to refute and try the "heretics"; among these believers were the Good Men, from whom the Cathars came to be called Albigensians.
