History
In 1966 territory split off from the Diocese of Versailles and the Archdiocese of Paris became the Diocese of Nanterre (Latin: Dioecesis Nemptodurensis; French: Diocèse de Nanterre). This Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France still answers to Paris, remaining a suffragan of that archdiocese.

Pope Leo XIV to visit France
Pope Leo XIV will visit France from September 25 to 28, marking the first papal visit to the country in nearly 20 years. The trip includes a visit to the shrine at Lourdes, a pilgrimage site popular with the sick. French bishops selected the motto "That the world may have life" for the visit, which suggests the Pope will focus on protecting human dignity and life. According to Crux, the visit comes as France faces recent legislative changes, including the 2024 constitutional enshrining of abortion rights and a new bill allowing adults with incurable illnesses to receive lethal medication. The Pope is expected to address these issues of life and end-of-life care during his stay.
