The Diocese of Galloway is a Latin rite diocese covering Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire in southwestern Scotland, re-established on 4 March 1878 at the restoration of the Scottish hierarchy. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh. Its seat is St Margaret's Cathedral in Ayr.

History

A Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in Scotland, the Diocese of Galloway carries the Latin title Dioecesis Candidae Casae o Gallovidianus. The pre-Reformation see, founded by Ninian in the fifth century, broke allegiance with Rome in 1560; it disappeared in 1689 within the (official) Church of Scotland, though it continued in the Episcopal Church of Scotland.
