History

When the Diocese of Beverley, until then responsible for all of Yorkshire, was split on 20 December 1878, the historic West Riding of Yorkshire went to the newly founded Diocese of Leeds (Latin: Dioecesis Loidensis), while diocesan organisation of the rest of the county passed to the Diocese of Middlesbrough. Leeds Cathedral, in the West Yorkshire city of Leeds, England, forms the centre of this Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church.
