The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Gorizia is a Latin Church see in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, founded in 1751 after the suppression of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and made metropolitan in 1830. Archbishop Giampaolo Dianin was appointed on 14 May 2026, and the Diocese of Trieste is its sole suffragan.

History

A Latin archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Italy, the Archdiocese of Gorizia (Latin: Archidioecesis Goritiensis) traces its founding to 1751, when the Patriarchate of Aquileia was abolished and its territory divided between two new dioceses, Udine and Gorizia. The archiepiscopal see carries several names in the region's languages: Friulian Gurizza/Gurizze, German Görz, and Slovene Gorica.
