The Diocese of Varaždin is a Latin Church diocese in northern Croatia, erected on 5 July 1997 from the Archdiocese of Zagreb, of which it is a suffragan. Its cathedral is the Church of the Assumption of Mary, raised to cathedral status in 1997.

History

Among Croatia's youngest sees, the Diocese of Varaždin (Latin: Dioecesis Varasdinensis) was erected only on July 5, 1997, from the Archdiocese of Zagreb, with its center in the city of Varaždin in northern Croatia. Bishop Marko Culej was the first to lead it, and Bishop Bože Radoš holds the office today. The Church of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, built in 1646, was proclaimed a cathedral on September 28, 1997. Saint Marko of Križevci is the diocese's patron saint.
