The Diocese of Timika is a Latin Catholic see in Central Papua, Indonesia, erected in 2003 and suffragan to the Archdiocese of Merauke. After a multi-year vacancy, Bishop Bernardus Bofitwos Baru, O.S.A., the second native Papuan bishop, was appointed in March 2025.

History

Under the jurisdiction of the ecclesiastical province of Merauke, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Timika (Latin: Timikaën(sis)) covers Central Papua, Indonesia. Its territory takes in every regency of Central Papua together with the regencies of Biak Numfor, Waropen, Yapen Islands, and Supiori in the Province of Papua. Six deaneries organize the diocese: Mimika Agimuga, Moni Puncak Jaya, Paniai, Kamuu Mapia, Teluk Cendrawasih, and Tigi. The cathedral stands in Timika, capital of Mimika regency.

  • Pater Dominikus Hodo leads Misa Syukur Bulan Kitab Suci Nasional

    Father Dominikus Hodo, Pr., led a thanksgiving Mass for Bulan Kitab Suci Nasional 2026 and the closing of Pra Pekan Cahaya II on September 20, 2026. The event, organized by YKAP and the Komisi Kerasulan Kitab Suci Keuskupan Timika, took place at the Kapela Kantor Keuskupan Timika. During the homily, Father Hodo, who chairs the scripture commission, encouraged children and young people to seek God by reading and studying the Kitab Suci. He stated that studying scripture should go beyond gaining knowledge to help people know God and experience conversion. He described conversion as surrendering one's life completely to God, citing the message of Santo Paulus in the Surat Rasul Paulus kepada Jemaat di Filipi.

    STK Touye Paapaa Deiyai holds meeting to schedule graduation events STK Touye Paapaa Deiyai of the Diocese of Timika held a meeting on September 18, 2026, to coordinate upcoming academic ceremonies for its students. The meeting, held at the Christ Our Resurrection (K3) Damabagata Parish Hall, included the faculty board, parents, and participating students. Participants agreed on a schedule for the upcoming events. The Yudisium is set for October 9, 2026, followed by the Missio Canonica on November 11, 2026. The graduation ceremony is scheduled for November 12, 2026.

  • Yayasan Karakter Anak Papua and Komisi Kerasulan Kitab Suci Keuskupan Timika strengthen Catholic children's development

    The Yayasan Karakter Anak Papua (YKAP) and the Commission on Biblical Apostolate of the Timika Diocese held a coordination meeting on September 18, 2026, to prepare for the BKSN–Pekan Cahaya II 2027 event. The meeting took place at the YKAP Hall in Timika to align visions for competitions planned for the 2027 program. This effort follows the first BKSN–Pekan Cahaya event held in 2025 by SMAK St. Ignatius Timika. As part of the preparations, the groups held a "Day with Fellow Believers" program from September 18 to 20, 2026. Participants attended sessions based on their school level, including elementary, junior high, and high school students. During these sessions, children received lessons on the theme "The Face of Jesus in Me" and participated in competition simulations to develop their talents. YKAP is organizing these activities in collaboration with the Timika Diocese Commission on Biblical Apostolate, various Catholic communities, and local believers in Timika.

    St. Peter's Parish in Ilaga held Bible reading and Bible quiz competitions on September 18, 2026, to observe BKSN 2026. Parishioners from the central parish and stations participated in the events. The Bible reading competition took place inside the church, while the quiz competition was held at the St. Peter's Ilaga Hall. Frater Martinus Tenouye, the person in charge of the BKSN 2026 activities, led the opening prayer.
