Syro-Malabar Catholic eparchy in Karnataka, India, erected on 24 April 1999 by Pope John Paul II. It is a suffragan of the Archeparchy of Tellicherry, with the Cathedral of St. Lawrence in Belthangady as its seat. Its patron is Mar Thoma Sliha (St. Thomas the Apostle).

History

An Eastern Catholic eparchy of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church at Belthangady, India, this see was erected in 1999 by Pope John Paul II's bull "Cum Ampla", which named Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhi its first bishop [1999-2025]. It is suffragan to the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Tellicherry, and its present bishop is Mar James Patteril. The eparchy was established for the Syro-Malabar Christians of three Karnataka districts: Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Udupi.
