By the Papal bull "Cum Ampla", Benedict XVI created the Eparchy of Bhadravathi as a suffragan of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Tellicherry. Its territory takes in two civil districts of Karnataka State, Shimoga and Chikmagalur.
