Latin-rite diocese in Bihar, India, erected 6 March 1980 from the Diocese of Patna and a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Patna. Its seat is the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Muzaffarpur; Catholics are a tiny minority of roughly 4,600 (2004) in a population of nearly 30 million.
