Latin-rite diocese in Tamil Nadu, India, with roots in the 1836 Apostolic Vicariate of Madura and Coromandel Coast; erected as a diocese in 1886, known as Trichinopoly from 1887, and renamed Tiruchirapalli in 1950. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Madurai, seated at St Mary's Cathedral (Our Lady of Health) in Tiruchirappalli.

History
Tiruchirapalli, also called Trichy, is the seat of this diocese (Latin: Tiruchirapolitan(us)) in the ecclesiastical province of Madurai in India. Its episcopal seat is St. Mary's Cathedral, Tiruchirappalli, known as well as the Cathedral of the Mother of Good Health.
