History

A Latin Church see centered on the Kenyan city of Kitale, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kitale (Latin: Dioecesis Kitalen(sis)) is a suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Kisumu. Its territory takes in Trans Nzoia County and West Pokot County in Kenya's North Rift region, an area of approximately 11,737 km².

  • MARIA REGINA MUNDI PARISH, ORTUM, WEST POKOT

    Bishop Henry Juma Odonya administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to seven hundred new faithful at Maria Regina Mundi Parish in Ortum, within the West Pokot Pastoral Area. During his homily, Bishop Odonya told the recipients and the congregation to use the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit and to trust God in all life situations. He described Confirmation as a step toward a deeper relationship with God rather than the end of a faith journey. He also encouraged the faithful to strengthen their prayer lives and act as witnesses for Christ in their families and communities. Father Mathew Rotich, the parish priest and administrator of the West Pokot Pastoral Area, thanked the catechists for preparing the candidates. He also praised the parishioners for their unity and cooperation in Church activities, urging them to continue working together to support the local ministry.

  • BISHOP CALLS ON RELIGIOUS SISTERS TO STRENGTHEN UNITY, LOVE AND SERVICE

    Bishop Henry Juma Odonya urged religious sisters to live in unity and love during the annual Mass for the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) Kitale Chapter. The event brought together sisters from different congregations serving in the Diocese of Kitale to pray and collaborate. During his address, Bishop Odonya said religious life must be built on prayer, the Word of God, and solidarity. He encouraged the sisters to support one another and work together to advance their ministry within the Church and society. He also noted that the AOSK can grow stronger if efforts to build the association begin at the diocesan level. Following the Mass, the sisters held an election to select new leaders for the diocesan chapter of the association. Bishop Emeritus Maurice Anthony Crowley and Father Ken Omondi, who oversees the diocesan Department of Religious Life, attended the service.

  • THE BISHOP’S LUNCHEON

    Bishop Henry Juma Odonya met with the Trans-Nzoia pastoral community and friends of the Church for a luncheon at St. Joseph’s Parish on September 25, 2026. The gathering served as a fundraiser to advance the construction of the St. Joseph’s Pastoral Centre. Bishop Odonya thanked the priests, religious men and women, and the faithful for their ongoing support of the project.
