Latin diocese in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, established as an apostolic vicariate on 20 April 1883 from the Diocese of Colombo and promoted to the Diocese of Kandy on 1 September 1886 as a suffragan of the simultaneously elevated Archdiocese of Colombo. Its cathedral is the Cathedral of St. Anthony in Kandy.

History

Within the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Archbishopric of Colombo, which covers all Sri Lanka, sits the suffragan Diocese of Kandy (Lat: Dioecesis Kandiensis) of the Latin Church, though it depends on the missionary Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Its episcopal seat is St. Anthony's Cathedral in Kandy. Valence Mendis, appointed in 2021, is the current bishop.
