Latin diocese on the east coast of Sri Lanka, created on 25 August 1893 from parts of the Archdiocese of Colombo and the Diocese of Jaffna; renamed Trincomalee-Batticaloa in 1967 and back to Diocese of Trincomalee on 3 July 2012 when Batticaloa became a separate diocese. Suffragan of Colombo, its cathedral is St. Mary's Cathedral in Trincomalee.

History
Eastern Sri Lanka falls under the Latin Catholic Diocese of Trincomalee (Latin: Dioecesis Trincomaliensis). Noel Emmanuel is the current bishop.
