Latin diocese in northwestern Sri Lanka, erected on 15 May 1987 from territory of the Diocese of Chilaw, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Colombo. Its cathedral is the Cathedral of St. Anne in Kurunegala; Bishop Harold Anthony Perera also serves as President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka.

History
Erected in 1987 out of territory belonging to the Diocese of Chilaw, the Diocese of Kurunegala (Lat: Dioecesis Kurunegalaensis) is a Latin Church jurisdiction in Sri Lanka and a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Colombo. Its boundaries match those of the Kurunegala District exactly. Harold Anthony Perera, appointed in 2009, is the present bishop.
