The Diocese of Mangochi is a Latin Rite suffragan diocese in Malawi, first established as the Apostolic Prefecture of Fort Johnston in 1969 and raised to a diocese in 1973. It has been led by Bishop Montfort Stima since 2013.

In Malawi, the city of Mangochi gives its name to a Catholic diocese (Latin: Mangocien(sis)) that belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Blantyre.

  • MCCB appoints Rev. Fr. Dr. Raphael Mkuzi as CUNIMA Deputy Vice Chancellor

    The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops appointed Father Raphael Mkuzi as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi. Vice Chancellor Professor Francis Moto communicated the decision to staff and students in a circular, noting the appointment took effect on September 3, 2026. Father Mkuzi holds a PhD in Economic Justice from the Graduate Theological Union at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s degree in Theology and Religious Studies from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. He previously served as the parish priest of St. Louis, Monkey Bay Parish, and as the dean of the Nankhwali Deanery in the Diocese of Mangochi. In his new position, Father Mkuzi joins the university's senior leadership team. The Catholic University of Malawi is an institution accredited by the National Council for Higher Education to offer degree, diploma, and certificate programs.
