Latin rite metropolitan archdiocese based in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, created as the Diocese of Leon on 26 January 1863 by Pope Pius IX and elevated to a metropolitan archdiocese by Pope Benedict XVI on 25 November 2006. Its seat is the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Light. Its suffragans are Celaya, Irapuato and Queretaro.

History
Based in the city of León, Guanajuato, the Archdiocese of León (Latin: Archidioecesis Leonensis) is a metropolitan see of the Roman Catholic Church in Mexico. Its territory of 41,940 km2 reaches into the states of Guanajuato and Querétaro and holds a population of 6,500,000.
