Its seat is the Cathedral Basilica of San Juan de los Lagos, home of the venerated image of Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos and a major national pilgrimage site.

History
Erected on 25 March 1972 as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara, the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Ioannis a Lacubus) takes in surrounding cities of the Mexican state of Jalisco, among them Lagos de Moreno, Tepatitlán and Arandas. Bishop José Leopoldo González González has led the diocese since 25 May 2024.
