Latin rite apostolic vicariate covering a vast swath of Peru's southeastern Amazon, established 5 January 1900 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Santo Domingo de Urubamba from the Diocese of Cusco, promoted to apostolic vicariate in 1913 and renamed Puerto Maldonado in 1949. It spans roughly 156,000 square kilometers of rainforest territory.
