History

Pope John Paul II created the Diocese of Cubao (Latin: Dioecesis Cubaoënsis) on June 28, 2003, drawing it from the ecclesiastical district of Cubao within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. Canonical erection followed on August 28, 2003, when Honesto Ongtioco was installed as the first bishop. The Latin Catholic diocese serves the Cubao district of Quezon City in northern Metro Manila, Philippines.

    Bishop Elias Ayuban Jr. will preside over a Mass to remember the victims of Martial Law on Monday at the Cubao Cathedral in Quezon City. The Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines (CMSP) invited the public to attend the 10 a.m. service. The CMSP stated that the Mass serves to bring the experiences of those who suffered during that period of history before the Lord. The group said the liturgy will include prayers for people working toward truth, justice, reconciliation, human dignity, and lasting peace. The gathering marks the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law through Proclamation 1081 on September 21, 1972. According to the CMSP, remembering this period is necessary to preserve historical truth and promote peace.
