History

Encompassing the Polish capital, the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Warsaw (Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitae Varsaviensis, Polish: Archidiecezja Metropolita Warszawska) is a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in Poland. It was erected on October 16, 1798 and raised to an archdiocese on June 30, 1818. As a metropolitan see it has two suffragans, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Płock and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Warszawa-Praga. The archdiocese's own statistics recorded 30.4% of its population attending church weekly in 2013, up from 29.8% a year earlier, though church attendance may still be declining.
