The Diocese of Santarém is a Latin rite see northeast of Lisbon, erected by Pope Paul VI in 1975 and suffragan to the Patriarchate of Lisbon. It marked its 50th anniversary in 2026 and is led by Bishop José Augusto Traquina Maria, who took office in 2017.

History

Erected on 16 July 1975 by Pope Paul VI, the Diocese of Santarém (Latin: Dioecesis Santaremensis in Lusitania) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in Portugal, suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Patriarchate of Lisbon. Its episcopal see at Santarém lies north-east of Lisbon. José Augusto Traquina Maria, appointed in 2017, is the current bishop.
