History

The Latin Church diocese of Rimini (Latin: Dioecesis Ariminensis) lies in Emilia Romagna, Italy. From the earliest times it answered directly to the Holy See, resisting repeated efforts by the Diocese of Ravenna to bring it under its authority as a suffragan; since 1604, however, it has belonged to the province of the Archdiocese of Ravenna-Cervia. The episcopal see is the cathedral of Rimini, the Tempio Malatestiano, dedicated to the Holy Spirit (Sancta Columba).

  • Diocese of Rimini to thank Pope Leo XIV

    A delegation of approximately 400 people from the Diocese of Rimini will meet Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter's Square on Wednesday, September 23, to express gratitude for his recent visit. The group plans to present the Pope with gifts that commemorate his time in their community. The delegation includes about 230 people traveling on five buses organized by Ariminum Travel, a group from the Viserba Mare parish, and others traveling to Rome independently. A group led by parish priest Alessandro Pironi will arrive from a two-day trip to join the larger diocesan group. Participants will gather in St. Peter's Square at 7:00 a.m. to receive passes before the 10:00 a.m. audience with the Pope. During the meeting, the delegation will display a banner reading "Thank you Pope Leo!" to show their appreciation. Following the audience, the Bishop of Rimini will preside over Holy Mass in St. Peter's Basilica at noon.
