History

Erected on 19 March 1539 as the Diocese of Chiapas and renamed on 27 October 1964, the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Christophori de las Casas) is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Tuxtla, with its see at San Cristóbal de las Casas in Chiapas. In November 2017, following the resignation of Bishop Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel, Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez was appointed the new bishop.
