History

Established on 20 May 1790 as part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Caracas, the see of Ciudad Bolívar (Latin: Civitatis Bolivaren(sis)) is a Latin Church jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in the Venezuelan city of the same name. On 21 June 1958 the diocese was raised to the rank of metropolitan archdiocese.
