Latin Church

The Latin rite Archdiocese of Hue in central Vietnam was erected as the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Cochinchina on 27 August 1850 and elevated to a metropolitan archdiocese on 24 November 1960. It heads the ecclesiastical province of Hue with five suffragan dioceses (Ban Me Thuot, Da Nang, Kontum, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon). Its cathedral is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Phu Cam Cathedral).

History

Central Vietnam's Archdiocese of Huế (Latin: Archidioecesis Huéensis) took its present form by declaration on 24 November 1960 and covers an area of 12,227 km2. Since 2016 it has been led by Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, previously the Bishop of Thanh Hóa. Five suffragan sees answer to it: the Dioceses of Ban Mê Thuột, Đà Nẵng, Kontum, Nha Trang, and Quy Nhơn.

Following a bilateral meeting with the director-general, the pope signed the guestbook and exchanged gifts.

  • Caritas Huế holds "Biết ơn – Gieo mầm xanh yêu thương" event

    Caritas Huế held the "Grateful – Sowing Green Seeds of Love" event on September 27, 2026, at the Archdiocese of Huê Pastoral Center. The HIV Department of Caritas Huế organized the gathering for 45 children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Huê region to teach them about gratitude and environmental protection. Sister Catarina Nguyễn Thị Tâm introduced the theme of gratitude, encouraging the children to appreciate their parents, teachers, nature, and God. The children wrote thank-you notes to remind themselves to value the things around them. Sister Têrêsa Đoàn Ngọc Linh used data, images, and documentary films regarding pollution to show the children the current state of the environment. She suggested practical solutions for the children to help protect their living environment. To conclude the session, each child wrote a specific promise to take action to protect the earth. The event ended with a festival.

    Pope Leo XIV met with catechumens, neophytes, and members of the Provincial Synodal Assembly at the Catholic Institute of Paris on September 26, 2026.
