The Archdiocese of Montevideo is the sole metropolitan see and primatial church of Uruguay, erected as a diocese in 1878 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1897. It is led by Cardinal Daniel Fernando Sturla Berhouet, S.D.B., installed in 2014, and its cathedral is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
