History
Erected in 1961, the Diocese of Canelones (Latin: Dioecesis Canalopolitana) is a Latin Church territory of the Catholic church in Uruguay, a suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Montevideo. The Cathedral of Canelones serves as its episcopal see. Bishop Heriberto Andrés Bodeant Fernández, appointed by Pope Francis on 19 March 2021, is its current and fourth bishop.
