Pope Leo XIV to address 2027 World Communications Day

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV has announced the theme for the 61st World Communications Day, which will take place on May 9, 2027. The theme, titled "A New Look: Knowing How to Care with Attention in the Age of Clickbait," was released by the Vatican Communications Office on September 29, 2026.

In his message, the Pope warns against the temptation to use sensational headlines or clickbait to attract attention through misleading promises. He states that true communication involves listening to, meeting, and loving others rather than treating attention as a commodity to be traded on social media.

The Pope's message, included in the document Magnifica humanitas, emphasizes the need for silence, deep learning, reading, and thoughtful dialogue. He warns that a constant flow of information can lead to fragmented knowledge that makes it difficult for people to understand reality as a whole. The Vatican Communications Office added that the current attention economy, which competes for seconds of user interest, can harm cognitive abilities and weaken the depth of human relationships.
