Deacons Leave Annual Convocation Inspired to Serve With Catholic Joy in the Diocese of Brooklyn
More than 80 permanent deacons gathered at the Immaculate Conception Center on Oct. 11 for the Diocese of Brooklyn Convocation. Attendees included deacons from the Diocese of Rockville Centre and the Archdiocese of New York.
Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, an author and EWTN host, delivered two keynote presentations regarding the vocation and mission of deacons and reclaiming the heart of the spiritual man. Burke-Sivers stated that deacons assist with evangelization by helping people encounter the love of Jesus Christ. His presentations covered the biblical and theological foundations of the diaconate, proper liturgical and sacramental actions, and the importance of strong marriages and family life.
Bishop Robert Brennan attended the event and invited Burke-Sivers to speak. Brennan had previously heard Burke-Sivers present during his time as bishop of the Diocese of Columbus.
