Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino to host international meeting

The Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino will host an international meeting titled "Disarmed and Disarming Peace" from October 25 to 27, 2026. The event marks the 40th anniversary of the historic meeting organized by Pope John Paul II in 1986.

The Community of Sant'Egidio is promoting the gathering in collaboration with the diocese and the Famiglia Francescana. The three day event includes 24 thematic forums covering topics such as peace, disarmament, the economy, youth, migration, and the environment.

Tonio Dell’Olio, president of the diocesan commission for the Spirit of Assisi, said the local Church must demonstrate credibility through daily dialogue, prayer, and supporting victims of war. As part of the commemorations, the commission is inaugurating an exhibition titled "Via Crucis Gaza – restiamo umani" at the Galleria dei Vescovi del Santuario della Spogliazione on Thursday, October 22. The exhibition focuses on the suffering of people affected by war and the value of human dignity.
