Pope Leo XIV to visit Assisi

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV will visit Assisi to conclude an international meeting on inter-religious dialogue for peace. The event, titled "Disarmed and Disarming Peace," is organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio and will take place from October 25 to 27, 2026.

The visit marks the 40th anniversary of the first historic meeting in Assisi promoted by Saint John Paul II. Bishop Accrocca of Assisi expressed happiness regarding the return of the Pope to the city, while Marco Impagliazzo noted that the Pontiff will share a message of peace with the world.

Father Marco Moroni, Custodian of the Sacred Convent, said the Pope previously indicated he would return to the area several times this year following a visit to the Basilica of Saint Francis in November. The upcoming visit follows the Pope's August 6 meeting with young people at the Porziuncola.
