Pauline Sisters Mark 50 Years in Kenya, Renew Commitment to Evangelization through Communication
The Pious Society of the Daughters of St. Paul celebrated 50 years of presence in Kenya on Sunday, October 25. Members of the congregation, also known as the Pauline Sisters, gathered at their community in the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi to mark the jubilee.
The congregation arrived in Nairobi on February 15, 1976, at the invitation of Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga. The sisters were originally invited to operate the diocesan bookshop. Sister Mari Lucia Kim, the Superior General, noted that the Nairobi community has since grown into a provincial house.
During the celebration, Sister Janet Angala, the Provincial Superior for Eastern Africa, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, read a speech on behalf of Sister Kim. The Superior General highlighted the sisters' use of books, audio-visual tools, and the internet to share the Gospel. She specifically cited the production of the African Bible edition and four other language editions as examples of their service.
