Pope Leo XIV appoints Alfonso Raimo as Bishop of Terni-Narni-Amelia

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Alfonso Raimo as the new bishop of the Diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia. Raimo, 67, previously served as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno and held the title of bishop of Termini Imerese.

Diocesan administrator Matteo Antonelli announced the appointment at noon on September 15, 2026, at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Terni. The announcement was made to priests, deacons, religious, and lay faithful, as well as local officials. The diocese has been in a transition period following the transfer of Bishop Francesco Antonio Soddu to Sassari.

Born in Calabritto in 1959, Raimo was ordained a priest on March 18, 1990. His previous roles included serving as a parish priest in Fisciano and a teacher of mission theology in Salerno. He also founded and led the School of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue in Eboli.
