The see fell vacant after Bishop Francesco Antonio Soddu was appointed Archbishop of Sassari in February 2026, and Father Matteo Antonelli was elected diocesan administrator in April 2026.

History

In Umbria, central Italy, the Diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia (Latin: Dioecesis Interamnensis-Narniensis-Amerina) took its present form in 1983, when the Diocese of Amelia was united with the Diocese of Terni and Narni; that combined see had itself been created in 1907 through the union of the Diocese of Narni with the historical Diocese of Terni. This Latin Church diocese belongs to no ecclesiastical province, being immediately exempt to the Holy See.

  • Diocese of Terni–Narni–Amelia celebrates Feast of the Precious Blood

    The Diocese of Terni–Narni–Amelia celebrated the feast of the Precious Blood on Sunday, September 27, at the Terni Cathedral. Diocesan administrator Matteo Antonelli presided over the Mass, which was concelebrated by cathedral parish priest Alessandro Rossini. During the homily, Antonelli noted that the relic of the blood of Jesus is venerated at the cathedral and remains present through the memorial of the Eucharistic sacrifice. He said the blood represents an obedience to God that leads to the sacrifice on the cross, urging the faithful to act as Jesus did. The celebration included families, catechism students, parish groups, and civil and military authorities. At the end of the liturgy, Antonelli blessed the congregation with the relic of the Precious Blood. This relic was donated to the city church by Cardinal Francesco Rapaccioli in 1650.

  • Associazione Le famiglie di Maria to hold annual conference at Collevalenza

    The association Le famiglie di Maria will hold its annual conference on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Santuario dell’Amore Misericordioso in Collevalenza. The event focuses on the theme Mary, Cathedral of Silence. Monsignor Luciano Alimandi of the Opera di Gesù, Sommo Sacerdote, will lead the conference. He is scheduled to give a catechesis at 9:30 a.m. and preside over a concelebrated Mass at 11:00 a.m. The program includes morning prayers led by Father Francesco, the association's spiritual assistant, followed by updates and testimonies after lunch. Participants will also attend Eucharistic adoration and visit the sites of Madre Speranza.

    The Diocese of Terni–Narni–Amelia will hold celebrations for the transit of St. Francis at the Convent of the Most Holy Annunciation in Amelia. A prayer vigil is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at 21:00, followed by Mass on Sunday at 18:00. The convent features an image by Domenico Bruschi, the same painter who frescoed the Chapel of the Transit of St. Francis at the Porziuncola in Assisi.

  • Don Matteo Antonelli presides over patronal feast

    Don Matteo Antonelli, the diocesan administrator, presided over the patronal feast for St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist Parish in Campitello on Monday, September 21. The solemn Mass was attended by many parishioners and members of the Terni4 vicariate. The priest Luca Andreani concelebrated the Mass alongside former parish priests Francesco De Santis and Gianni Sabatini, as well as Mario Lendini, Sergio Vandini, and Vasile Andreca, who serves at the old church in Campitello. During the liturgy, Antonelli spoke about how Matthew’s life and writing transmit the good news of the Kingdom of God and how the apostle created a community by welcoming those in need of forgiveness. At the conclusion of the celebration, Father Andreani presented Antonelli with an icon of St. Matthew. The gift served as a gesture of thanks and a remembrance of the years Antonelli spent in the Campitello parish during his formation.
