Resignations and Appointments

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Víctor Valentin Sánchez Espinosa from his role as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Puebla de los Ángeles, Mexico.

The Pope appointed Archbishop Jorge Carlos Patrón Wong to succeed him as the new archbishop of Puebla de los Ángeles. Patrón Wong previously served in Jalapa. Born in Mérida in the Archdiocese of Yucatán, he was ordained a priest for Yucatán in 1988. He later served as coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Papantla starting in 2009 and became the diocesan bishop of Papantla in 2012. His previous roles include serving as rector of the Seminary of Yucatán and holding leadership positions within the Organization of Mexican Seminaries and the Latin American Organization of Seminaries.
